Supervision requires the supervisee to have a level of vulnerability that can at times be challenging for the individual and the group. Vulnerability is the practice of being honest with oneself, honest with others, and not being afraid to be imperfect. The “guru” of vulnerability, Brene Brown has this to say about vulnerability:
“Vulnerability is not weakness. And that myth is profoundly dangerous. Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change”. – Brené Brown
“Regardless of who we are, how we were raised or what we believe, all of us fight hidden, silent battles against not being good enough, not having enough and not belonging enough. When we find the courage to share our experiences and the compassion to hear others tell their stories, we force shame out of hiding, and end the silence.” – Brené Brown
So I hope that you will join us in this practice of being vulnerable, because it will make you a better practitioner, better person, and an amazing social worker.
