“Come fall apart, come fall apart, come fall apart with me”.
I was listening to a livestream the other day and a participant said they felt like falling apart. The presenter affirmed this need and said, “I hope you can find someone to fall apart with”. At that moment the words “come fall apart with me” (set to the tune of the legendary song by Styx), entered my head. It’s the therapist’s theme song. We invite people to come into our space so that we can give them the space to “fall apart”. Many of us spend a significant portion of our days trying to keep it all together: in work meetings, at home with our kids, in the mornings when we are trying to get out the door, at night with our spouse. And sometimes we just need a place to express our feelings and thoughts and have a moment to feel how we are feeling. We call it falling apart, but really it’s just feeling all the things that make us human.
Modern life has it’s benefits (running water, advancements in medicine, connecting with people from all over the globe from a computer), but it also has it’s stressors. We are being overwhelmed with information, choices, expenses, guilt, and fear. We all need time and a place to process all of these thoughts, feelings and information and find ways to integrate it into our lives in a healthy and productive way.
Going to counseling is a great way to start working through issues that are making you feel overwhelmed. It’s a safe space to feel how you feel and learn new ways to live life on your own terms.
Don’t hesitate to reach out and set up an initial appointment. Help is here now. Today is a great day to fall apart.
